Wednesday May 30th 2012 is National Fish and Chips Day in Ireland. This is the third event following on from the hugely successful 2010 and 2011 events. National Fish and Chips Day is organised by ITICA, the Irish Traditional Italian Chippers Association.

Forget Cirque du Soir – it’s all about Cirque du Byrne!

Irish cinema in the heart of the Jumeirah Lakes Towers!

Dubai features preciously little art-house cinema, so we are pleased to let you know that the “Ireland on Screen UAE” film festival 2012 will come to the city on Tuesday, 3rd of April.

Ireland on Screen UAE 2012 is supported by the Embassy of Ireland, Abu Dhabi. The aims of the program are to provide local audiences with a sample of Irish cinema and to raise cultural awareness and appreciation in the United Arab Emirates for Irish and Irish-related film and cinema.

Don’t miss your chance to see Ken Loach’s critically acclaimed “The Wind that Shakes the Barley” – a sympathetic look at Republicans in early 20th century Ireland, and two brothers who are torn apart by anti-Brit rebellion.

In addition to the main film, a selection of Irish short films will also be shown. You can find out more about them here.

The event takes place at the stunningly stylish Almas Tower Conference Centre, at the heart of the Jumeirah Lakes Towers and only minutes away from the nearest metro station (Red Line: Jumeirah Lakes Towers). The Almas Tower Conference Centre is managed by the Bonnington Hotel, which also supports the event together with McGettigan’s Irish Pub – both are conveniently located just across the road from the event’s venue and you’re welcome to pop in for a pre- or post-cinema dinner or drink. 4 Days to go! Tent? Check! Flag? Check! #stpatricksdayindubai

4 days until St. Patrick’s Day 2012 in Dubai! McGettigan’s Irish Pub is working hard to complete the set-up for Dubai’s biggest Irish party in time for the arm-up events this coming Thursday.

Outside McGettigan’s neighbour, the Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers, the festival tent is currently being erected and it’s huge! The folks from the Bonnington are getting ready to welcome the musicians for the festival, including Paddy Casey and Picture House.

On the 11th floor of the Bonnington Hotel, the Irish flag is currently being put in place. Like in the previous years, it will proudly fly over the Jumeirah Lakes Towers during the duration of the festival!

So what you are you waiting for? Get ready for St. Patrick’s Day 2012 in Dubai!

As always with the monthly wine dinners at the Cavendish, you have the choice of either three or five courses, all expertly paired with a glass of wine by the Bonnington’s Food & Beverage Manager, Giacomo Puntel.

18 days to go & here’s the line-up for Dubai’s biggest St. Patrick’s Day ever!

18 days to go until St. Patrick’s Day 2012 and the preparations for Dubai’s biggest St. Patrick’s Day event are well underway. Like every year since the opening of the

Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers, the Irish flag will be flying from the hotel’s 11th floor throughout St. Patrick’s week. It’s expected to be in place around 12th March, wheather permitting.

The St. Patrick’s Day weekend kicks off in McGettigan’s Irish Pub on Thursday, 15th March with a Trad Band playing in the Pub from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a huge BBQ in the Pub’s beergarden.

On Friday, 16th March, McGettigan’s regular Mike Ross will be playing in the Pub from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. – the perfect end to the Pub’s Friday brunch! From 7 p.m., Picturehouse will be rocking the beergarden until 10 p.m. when DJ John Hayes takes over.

Friday also sees the official opening of the Bonnington’s St. Patrick’s Day tent, which will be located in the car park just outside the Bonnington’s entrance. Friday will be family day and the tent will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the Trad Band playing from noon until 4 p.m. There will be plenty of kids activities on offer, including a bouncy castle and face painters, plus a Guinness bar for the adults. To ensure that nobody goes hungry, a BBQ will be in place.

Saturday will see madness in all areas: McGettigan’s will open at 11 a.m. as will the St. Patrick’s Day tent. The Trad Band and Mike Ross will play both venues during the day and there will be live performances of Irish dancing. BBQs will be in operation in the beergarden and the tent and the evening will see McGettigan’s favourite, Paddy Casey entertain the crowds in the St. Patrick’s Day tent, while in the beergarden the 6 Nations action takes center stage, with the England vs. Ireland game being shown on the big screen.

Also, on Saturday the Cavendish restaurant in the Bonnington will offer a special Irish lunch buffet.

Entrance to all events is free and there will be ample free parking just next to the Bonnington & McGettigan’s in Cluster I in Jumeirah Lakes Towers.

Mayor of McGettigan’s – The Final!

Almost exactly a year ago, McGettigan’s Irish Pub launched the “Mayor of McGettigan’s” promotion and, since then a new mayor was crowned every month. Last night, Tommy O’Regan was crowned the 12th Mayor of McGettigan’s. He’ll reign until St. Patrick’s Day.

All mayors won an all expenses paid meal and drinks night out for them and their other half at the stunning Cavendish Restaurant at the Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Not only that, but they also had the honour of receiving one free drink, every day for one month at McGettigan’s. THEN if that wasn’t good enough, they were entered into a draw at the end of the year to win a trip for two to Dublin for St. Patrick’s week 2012, including return direct flights to Dublin and a stay at the Regency Hotel in the capital of Ireland!
