McGettigan’s Pub, which was one of the main St. Patrick’s Day entertainment venues in Dubai, asked party goers to donate whatever cash they could to the Red Crescent (Red Cross), the International aid charity. In addition, the Managing Director of McGettigan’s and the Bonnington Hotel, Mr. Dennis McGettigan, offered to match all donations to double the total and promised that the entire takings between 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. in McGettigan’s on St. Patrick’s Day would also be added to the total sum.
Dennis McGettigan said, “I am pleased to say that within a very short space of time, we managed to raise AED 30,000, which has now been donated to the Red Crescent to support their aid mission in Japan. I would like to thank everybody who has contributed to this amazing total!”
In response to the devastation caused by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake off the east coast of Japan on Friday 11 March and the resulting tsunami, the Red Crescent Society has deployed 62 response teams over the past 24 hours.
These medical relief teams – made up of about 400 doctors, nurses and support staff – are already providing assistance in affected areas through mobile medical clinics, as well as assessing the damage and needs of the communities affected.

St. Patrick’s Week (now until 19th March) is a time to celebrate all things Irish for St. Patrick’s Day – but while the Irish and others celebrate in Dubai thousands of people have had their lives destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
McGettigan’s Irish Pub at the Bonnington Towers Hotel is getting ready to open for the busiest week of the year and all during this week of celebrations, donation points will be available for party goers to donate whatever cash they can to the Red Crescent (Red Cross), the International aid charity.
There will be buckets available to collect donations in McGettigan’s Pub and at the end of the week whatever money is raised will be matched by the owners of McGettigan’s to double the total.
On top of all that on 17th March – St Patrick’s Day, between 6pm and 7pm the bar takings for that full hour will be donated to the aid mission in Japan.
Managing Director of the Bonnington Hotel and McGettigan’s Irish Pub, Dennis McGettigan said:
“I genuinely have been horrified by the events that are unfolding in Japan. We have a pub here that will be very busy for the week leading up to St Patrick’s Day so it is a perfect opportunity to show what a big heart the expat community in Dubai has. We hope there will be lots of money raised this week to help with the aid mission in Japan.”
