Talking about McGettigan’s – we just received news of their latest Irish music concert, which is scheduled for Friday, 1st April 2011.
McGettigan’s is bringing the legendary Wolfe Tones to Dubai!
The Wolfe Tones were first formed in the heart of Dublin in 1963 and have since become one of the most famous Irish groups of all time, incorporating traditional Irish music and history in to all of their songs. Brian Warfield, Noel Nagle & Tommy Byrne will lift the roof of McGettigan’s Irish Pub on Friday 1st of April with tickets priced at just AED150. Tickets will be on sale very soon at McGettigan’s Irish Pub. For further info, see their Facebook events listing here.
Declan Pierce, the Entertainment & Events Manager at the Bonnington Hotel which McGettigan’s is part of, said, “The Pub, which played host to Paddy Casey on 4th of March in a sell out performance is now set to welcome The Wolfe Tones on 1st of April and Mundy on the 29th of April. There are over 7,000 Irish people living and working in Dubai and for the first time they will get to see some of the best Irish music acts on their new, sunny, doorstep! We’re delighted to be welcoming so many top names in Irish music to McGettigan’s. The Irish really know how to party here so we’re looking forward to a great few weeks!”
The Managing Director of the Hotel, Dennis McGettigan said, “We’ve lined up some great entertainment this year at the Hotel. Declan is working hard to provide a really strong entertainment schedule, that will be the envy of all other hotels in Dubai!”
Here are two videos of the Wolfe Tones in action in Belfast and Glasgow in 2008:

This coming Friday will see Irish voters cast their votes in Ireland’s 2011 general election. Election results broadcasts are always good fun and this one should be no exception.
RTE will start their election results cover at 3 p.m. Dubai time on Saturday, 26th February, and you can catch it live at McGettigan’s Irish Pub followed by some quality live sports!
Here’s another pre-St. Patrick’s Day 2011 event in Dubai, which promises sporting action and fun for all the family.
Dubai Duty Free, together with the Dubai Celts, brings you the 2011 Gulf Gaelic Games!
Taking place on the 4th & 5th March at the Emirates Sports Complex just outside Dubai, the event will feature competitions in Men’s Football, Ladies Football, Hurling, Camogie, Schools and Underage.
Thanks to the success of the previous Dubai Duty Free Gulf Gaelic Games, this year’s event promises to be the biggest yet. Last year, teams came from the Middle East, Asia, Europe and Ireland to take part in the competitions and it proved to be a fantastic weekend of Gaelic Games.
Teams will battle it out over two days in the different sections of the competition and the strongest teams will be rewarded at the end of day two after what promise to be closely contested finals.
The event, of course, conveniently coincides with Paddy Casey’s concert at McGettigan’s Irish Pub at the Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers. A short 30 minutes taxi ride will take you straight from the Emirates Sports Complex to McGettigan’s!
McGettigan’s is fast turning JLT into somewhat of an Irish village and Wednesday evenings from 9 p.m. onwards are made even more special by Declan’s live performances.
Declan, who’s originally from Monasterevin in Co. Kildare (up the Lilly Whites!), has been living in Dubai for the last 5 years or so.
Music is his pass-time and it has helped him make many great friends at home and while working in France, Italy, and Canada over the last few years.
He says: “It’s a great feeling to get a pub full of strangers all singing together at the start of the weekend.”
He now has to regular weekly gigs in Dubai, McGettigan’s on Wednesdays, and Fibber Magees on Thursdays. Do check him out!

St. Patrick’s Day 2011 is still 38 days away, so here’s a couple of suggestions for what you could do while waiting for the big day to arrive…
Mid-February sees Valentine’s Day celebrations taking place all over the world, and Dubai is no exception. At the Bonnington in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, both lovers and haters of Valentine’s Day are suitably catered for!
Those of you, who despise Valentine’s Day, may want to pop down to Healey’s Bar & Terrace at the Bonnington for “Heartless Valentine’s – The Celebrity Anti-Valentine’s Party” on Sunday, 13th February.
14th February has been declared a ‘dry day’ by the authorities in the UAE, so here’s your chance to party it down before the bars and clubs close for an evening:
Fans of Valentine’s Day, on the other hand, might enjoy a romantic dinner for two on the Bonnington’s Leisure Deck, high above the Jumeirah Lakes:
Last, but not least, tickets have just gone on sale for Paddy Casey’s Dubai concert on 4th March 2011 – get yours before they sell out!

On March 17th, everybody is a bit Irish, and to get you ready for the big day, we suggest you visit Dubai's premier Irish Pub, McGettigan's at the Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers, for some pre-St. Patrick's Day training beverages.
