The awards are about congratulating hotels that have taken the extra step and differentiated themselves from “good hotels” to “exceptional hotels”.

The World Luxury Hotel Awards account for all categories in the Luxury Hotel industry. Award winners set the benchmark for luxury hotels in achieving recognition for their world class facilities and service excellence.

Meet the Roses!

The 2011 Dubai RosesThe selection process in advance of this year’s Rose of Dubai event which will be held in the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Hotel on Friday April 22nd continued with the Roses being interviewed at the Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers by the judging panel. Once formal proceedings were complete, the Roses had the opportunity to relax and unwind at the Thai Privilege Spa, followed by a VIP photo shoot courtesy of Pink Pepper Studio, Dubai Mall.

A limited amount of tickets for the event is still available. You can email the Irish Society Dubai for further details. Tickets are priced at AED 325 and entry includes the evenings entertainment, a three course buffet meal and three drinks.

Mixer goes to Dubai!

Michael "Mixer" Dooley in Dubai!Everybody who’s been to McGettigan’s at the Bonnington in Dubai should know “Mixer”.

Those who haven’t yet checked out Dubai’s No. 1 Guinness selling Irish Pub should note that, unlike in other bars around the world, asking for “a mixer” in McGettigan’s will not get you a drink, but the Pub Manager instead.

Originally from Galway, Michael “Mixer” Dooley is now looking after patrons at McGettigan’s. He’s a famous one, is Mixer – he even made it into the March 2011 edition of the Irish Pubs Global magazine!

Japan Charity Drive: The Results!

McGettigan’s Irish Pub at the Bonnington Towers Hotel is pleased to announce the result of its charity drive for the victims of the natural disaster in Japan, which was held on St. Patrick’s Day (17th March 2011).

McGettigan’s Pub, which was one of the main St. Patrick’s Day entertainment venues in Dubai, asked party goers to donate whatever cash they could to the Red Crescent (Red Cross), the International aid charity. In addition, the Managing Director of McGettigan’s and the Bonnington Hotel, Mr. Dennis McGettigan, offered to match all donations to double the total and promised that the entire takings between 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. in McGettigan’s on St. Patrick’s Day would also be added to the total sum.

Dennis McGettigan said, “I am pleased to say that within a very short space of time, we managed to raise AED 30,000, which has now been donated to the Red Crescent to support their aid mission in Japan. I would like to thank everybody who has contributed to this amazing total!”

Irish Pub in Dubai raises money for JapanIn response to the devastation caused by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake off the east coast of Japan on Friday 11 March and the resulting tsunami, the Red Crescent Society has deployed 62 response teams over the past 24 hours.

These medical relief teams – made up of about 400 doctors, nurses and support staff – are already providing assistance in affected areas through mobile medical clinics, as well as assessing the damage and needs of the communities affected.

Every year on 17th March, Dubai residents and visitors, whether Irish or not, flock to the city's entertainment venues to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We thought it was time to provide St. Patrick with an "online" home in Dubai!

As you can see from the countdown clock on the right, there are only 39 days left until the 2011 St. Patrick's Day in Dubai.

On March 17th, everybody is a bit Irish, and to get you ready for the big day, we suggest you visit Dubai's premier Irish Pub, McGettigan's at the Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers, for some pre-St. Patrick's Day training beverages.

Make a note in your diaries now! The 2011 St. Patrick's Day Ball, organised by the Dubai Irish Society, takes place on Friday, 11th March 2011. The venue and ticket prices are currently being finalised, so make sure you keep an eye on the Dubai Irish Society's website for updates!

Lovers of Irish music do not have to wait until St. Patrick's Day to enjoy Irish songs, food, and drinks, because Paddy Casey is coming to town on Friday 4th March 2011. For one night only, Paddy Casey will perform all his hits live at McGettigan's:
