The selection process in advance of this year’s Rose of Dubai event which will be held in the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Hotel on Friday April 22nd continued with the Roses being interviewed at the Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers by the judging panel. Once formal proceedings were complete, the Roses had the opportunity to relax and unwind at the Thai Privilege Spa, followed by a VIP photo shoot courtesy of Pink Pepper Studio, Dubai Mall.
A limited amount of tickets for the event is still available. You can email the Irish Society Dubai for further details. Tickets are priced at AED 325 and entry includes the evenings entertainment, a three course buffet meal and three drinks.
Everybody who’s been to McGettigan’s at the Bonnington in Dubai should know “Mixer”.
Those who haven’t yet checked out Dubai’s No. 1 Guinness selling Irish Pub should note that, unlike in other bars around the world, asking for “a mixer” in McGettigan’s will not get you a drink, but the Pub Manager instead.
Originally from Galway, Michael “Mixer” Dooley is now looking after patrons at McGettigan’s. He’s a famous one, is Mixer – he even made it into the March 2011 edition of the Irish Pubs Global magazine!
McGettigan’s Pub, which was one of the main St. Patrick’s Day entertainment venues in Dubai, asked party goers to donate whatever cash they could to the Red Crescent (Red Cross), the International aid charity. In addition, the Managing Director of McGettigan’s and the Bonnington Hotel, Mr. Dennis McGettigan, offered to match all donations to double the total and promised that the entire takings between 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. in McGettigan’s on St. Patrick’s Day would also be added to the total sum.
Dennis McGettigan said, “I am pleased to say that within a very short space of time, we managed to raise AED 30,000, which has now been donated to the Red Crescent to support their aid mission in Japan. I would like to thank everybody who has contributed to this amazing total!”
In response to the devastation caused by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake off the east coast of Japan on Friday 11 March and the resulting tsunami, the Red Crescent Society has deployed 62 response teams over the past 24 hours.
These medical relief teams – made up of about 400 doctors, nurses and support staff – are already providing assistance in affected areas through mobile medical clinics, as well as assessing the damage and needs of the communities affected.
