Irish indie rock band, Little Green Cars will perform live on Thursday August 25 at 10pm in McGettigan’s AUH and on Friday August 26 as part of the ‘New Season, New Sound’ campaign at McGettigan’s JLT from 9.30pm.
Formed in Dublin in 2008, the five-piece band consists of members Stevie Appleby on guitar and vocals, Faye O’Rourke on vocals, Adam O’Regan on guitar, Donagh Seaver O’Leary on bass and Dylan Lynch on drums.
We caught up with Little Green Cars guitarist, Adam O’Regan to talk new music and life on the road ahead of their McGettigan’s performances.
McGettigan’s: Your latest album, Ephemera is the name of a WB Yeats poem. Are you guys a big fan of poetry?
Adam: Yeah, literature in general is a big influence on the band and when we were trying to come up with the artwork for the album, Stevie found this poem and he thought it reflected the sentiment of the music.
McGettigan’s: You’ve been friends since you were kids at school. What was the band like back then?
Adam: Myself and Stevie were kind of the misfits that didn’t really fit in and once we found our music, we kind of neglected everything else and school went on the back-burner.
McGettigan’s: What’s it like playing home gigs in Ireland versus overseas?
Adam: You know, playing to your home crowd there’s a different kind of nerve – it’s your family and your people but it’s a brilliant feeling.
McGettigan’s: What can we expect from your gigs with McGettigan’s in Dubai and Abu Dhabi?
Adam: We’ve no idea what to expect actually as we’ve never been to the UAE so we are kind of just going to see what it’s like when we get there.
McGettigan’s: You’ve played festivals like Coachella and appeared on Jimmy Fallon in the USA and have been touring all across the world. How important is it that you are known outside of Ireland?
Adam: No matter where we play we put all our energy into our music. Just having the opportunity to have people hear our music is the goal. It doesn’t matter so much where we play, just that we have the chance to.
McGettigan’s: What do you love about being Irish and playing to an Irish crowd?
Adam: The sense of humour, it keeps you grounded.
McGettigan’s: What are you currently working on?
Adam: We are writing new music right now – we want to get the third album out as soon as possible. It’s too early to tell the direction of the album but we have some great songs.
McGettigan’s: What’s the highlight of touring with your mates?
Adam: Touring is the best university of life and getting to travel around the world together – none of us would trade that in.
